Autonous Construction Cranes

The construction industry is also striving for continuous increases in efficiency, such as through the optimization of processes and cost reduction. Autonomous construction cranes could make a significant contribution in the future by independently handling tasks like delivering building materials or removing construction waste. It is important to note that, unlike in ports or industrial facilities, it is usually not possible to designate separate areas to keep cranes and personnel (or other objects) apart. For this reason, autonomous construction cranes must be designed as collaborative systems, capable of dynamically adapting to different scenarios and environments.

Safety is a particularly important aspect in the construction industry, as it is the most accident-prone sector in Germany, with over 50 accidents per 1,000 full-time workers DGUV2019. Hanging loads and cranes are involved in nearly 60% of all fatal accidents involving lifting equipment DGUV2019.
