Making measurable what is not so today:
In-process measurements on wind turbines
Abstract
Wind turbines are operated under dynamic wind conditions. To understand the occurring turbine deformations and the impaired behaviour of the aerodynamics, in-process capable measurement principles are proposed. These principles can measure flow dynamics and deformation dynamics on operating wind turbines - without contact, without modifying the wind turbine, from over 100 m distance, and on the up to 325 km/h fast moving rotor blades. The presentation introduces the studied principles, discusses the achievable measurement uncertainty, and presents the measurement results of the turbine dynamics from our field experiments.
