- 1994-1999 PhD in engineering sciences at the University of Ulm.
- 1999-2001 Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at UC Berkeley.
- 2001-2015 Head of development optics at Polytec GmbH.
- Since 2015 Professorship for metrology at TU Clausthal.
- Since 2017 Managing Director of the Institute for Electrical Information Technology at the TU Clausthal
- Since 2020 Subject advisor for the Bachelor's degree program in Electrical Engineering and the Master's degree program in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology
- Since 2022 Chairman of the board of the Working Group of University Teachers of Measurement Technology (Arbeitskreis der Hochschullehrer für Messtechnik AHMT)
